A one-hour Chatham House Rule presentation by Dr. Robert Gordon offering many insights, plus a highly interactive Q&A session.

The AI revolution is the hottest topic everywhere: among economists, financial analysts, policymakers, and almost everyone else.  Most of today’s focus is on the likelihood of a job apocalypse, an equity market bubble, and the overbuilding of data centers.  This talk takes a different approach.  Dr. Gordon’s focus will be:

  • Productivity is growing faster since 2022, but why?

  • A boost to productivity in high-paying industries does not always translate over one-for-one to faster productivity growth for the total economy…so what should we expect AI’s impact to be?

  • Are there any headwinds in the economy—including “Baumol’s cost disease”—that could slow or derail economic growth?

  • Will declining fertility and growing longevity overwhelm the economy with exploding deficits and debt?
